    new project: file upload problem

The file upload feature on the new project page did not work for me (docx). Upon trying to create a project with a docx file selected, I got an error page saying that my page could not be found. The past text option did work.

Hi Thanks for this ... we'll work to reproduce and see if we can ferret out the bug, or bugs.

Could you tell me what OS/browser you are using?

    Thanks!
    Hugh.

    Revert button doesn't work.

I tested reverting an edit done by a dummy account and it didn't work. Scary!

Hi Andrew, can you confirm how you arrived at this bug? Were you editing through a normal chapter edit, and then reverting it from "see all revisions" and got an error message?

We have noted this as a bug and it will be fixed with our next release.

Relocate the "More of this text, please!" button

When you are searching through the snippets to find something worth editing, its helpful to have the "More of this text, please!" button visible rather than having to scroll down the page for it. Should be very close to the snippet.

    Can't stay logged in here

I have no idea if I am supposed to be able to comment at:

    http://feedback.bookoven.com/pages/15877-general/suggestions/287915-new-project-file-upload-problem

When I try, I seem to get logged out. In any case, I was using Firefox 3.5.2 (Macintosh) when I could not upload a docx file. I have been... more

hi JW, thanks for this... (Yes you shouod be able to comment on the other post, strange that you are getting bumped).

I notice that you have successfully uploaded a couple of docs - but I will report this one nonetheless.

    Thanks!
    Hugh.

Try not to break quoted speach in part into a snippet

Thanks for the note ... Tech issues aside (aka that's likely to be complicated!) ... could you explain why you think quoted speech shouldn't be snippetized? I just want to get a better handle on your reasoning, so I can understand the concern?

Make it easier to find projects I am Bite-Size Editing

    FROM CHRISTINE:
Once I am signed in, if I click on "bite sized edits" at the top, I get some random book to edit. To get to the specific project I want to work on, I first have to go into my dashboard and so on. Maybe it would be nice if when I click on bite-sized edits, there would be... more

    Problem in stats reporting?

I've just gone through a few snippets, and clicked done - the message received was:

You approved 0 snippets and suggested 0 edits from the 0 snippets you viewed.

This brings your total to: 21 approved snippets and 3 suggested edits from 24 snippets.

[Second part sounds about right, first... more

We'll test this - I've just had a look and have noticed a problem with the stats not displaying 0 where it should, and I also notice that it's not displaying skipped snippets. When you went through the snippets, did you approve, edit or skip them?

    Better way to find collaborators

    FROM DAVID:
I think the greatest value that Book Oven adds is social: the ability to meet and then collaborate with other writers (or others who just like to edit). The tools are essential, as is having a centralized place for multiple people to contribute to a project. But providing a forum to ... more

    clarify where paragraphing occurs.

I.e., "Fire!" was the snippet supplied and the next sentence began in lowercase. I couldn't tell whether that was a fault with the display in BookOven or an error in the text entry.

More of the "end of sentence" confusion ... !

BSE seems to have a problem again with quotes

Some of the snippets are coming up with just " in the window, and I can see the end of the spoken-sentence in the pre-snippet view.

Purge Submissions That Are Not Being Managed

This is specific to Book Oven, but also relates to Bite Size Edits as well. There are a number of authors who have made submissions and then disappeared, with no activity for months and months. If an author or project owner hasn't logged on or had any activity in a certain period - I'd Suggest ... more

    Some edits look like rubbish

It happened few times to my text: in suggested edit box were just random characters. I thought taht if I just refuse the "edit" the corresponding phrase will never be presented for editing again. I would like to put it back for editing then.

group projects as "chapters" of a whole

it would be great to be able to group subprojects (ie chapters) so you could add sections as you go along --
some people might want to see statistics per section or even have multiple versions going

    Status: under review

yes, in the future plans as well - & in addition, we'd like you to be able to export grouped projects to epub etc.

    Express edit option

Tom Hughes-Croucher also suggested a possible premium service, which would be an Express Edit option where pay to get their stuff proofed really quickly, possibly via Mechanical Turk. This might make the service attractive so people who want shorter pieces edited quickly.

Limit how much of your book one person can see

Another idea from Tom HC is to put limits on how much of your book one person in Bite Size Edits can actually see, e.g. no one can see more than 5o% of my book's snippets. This might help people who are a little bit unsure about exposing their unfinished work to the world feel more confident in the system.

Reduce Bite-Size Edits buttons to two

The idea is to have two buttons - "Skip", and then either "Looks Ok" or "Suggest Edits" depending on whether the user has edited anything or not.

Better process for footnotes in Bite-Size Edits

At the moment, footnotes are a bit broken in Bite-Size Edits. It's something we need to figure out how to do!

This is strongly dependent on how footnotes are done within the original content. We may be able to identify footnotes if the document contains sufficient styling (e.g. in a Word format).
